At the Height of Fame

Avril’s debut album Let Go was released on the 4 th of June 2002.

It reached number two in America and hit the top spot in Australia, Canada and the UK.

This meant that at that time she became the youngest ever female solo artist to have a number one album in Britain.

The album has since gone six times platinum in the US alone, putting it amongst some of the greatest albums of all time!

Complicated was Avril’s breakthrough single, reaching number one in many countries, even becoming one of the 100 best-selling songs of the decade.

Other extremely popular hits from the album included Sk8er Boi and I’m With You. These successes led to Avril being nominated for an incredible eight Grammy awards.

on the 25 th of May 2004, Avril released her next studio album Under My Skin. Although it didn’t repeat the commercial success of her debut effort, it still received critical acclaim and proved popular with fans.

After a couple of years on hiatus, Avril released what some perceived as a comeback album on the 17 th of April 2007 called The Best Damn Thing. It proved highly successful; not only did the album go straight in at number one in the American charts, but so did the most famous single from it, Girlfriend.

Her next album Goodbye Lullaby had its release date pushed back a number of times by the record company. Avril has said that the material for this album was very different to her earlier work, and even features a song she wrote as a fourteen-year-old girl. Although it isn’t her most successful album, it has still sold more than two million copies!

Avril’s latest album at the time of writing is Avril Lavigne ; she says that one of her favourite songs on it is 17, which reminds her of growing up in Canada. the song was first heard by the general public when Avril made a surprise performance of it at the Viper Room club in LA. The album was released on the 1 st of November 2013 and is a return to a more pop-focused style after the mellow-inclined sound of Goodbye Lullaby.
